"Carpenter, Seen From The Back"
Drawing, pencil: Vincent van Gogh
After graduating from James Madison University in 1995 with a degree in finance, I took an accounting position with a large corporation. I found this work unfulfilling and began to search for work that interested me. I traveled far and often, gathered colorful experiences, and applied myself fully in all of my pursuits. I have walked the length of the Blue Ridge, learned Spanish and a little Quechua while working towards the improvement of a small town in the high Andes, and irrigated land and harvested its organic fruits. These and other experiences influence my perspective and feed the excitement and flow I put into each project.
To learn carpentry I worked an apprenticeship with a local carpenter and builder. I established BuildWell Carpentry in 2003 and focus on old house restoration, specialty porches and decks, and kitchen and bath renovations requiring made-to-order cabinetry. By cabinet, I refer to anything from a mahogany, slate, and tempered glass shower enclosure; a board and batten walk-in closet lined in tongue and groove cedar boards; a 21' long built-in adjustable shelving system with a flip down laptop desk, to...whatever you may have in mind.
I live with my wife and three daughters in our native state of Virginia. Through much labor and love we have restored and embellished our 1944 all-brick Cape Cod house located in the Northern Shenandoah Valley.
